Our first survey for 2012 comes courtesy of Space Garden who wanted to know what length of mixes everyone prefers.

So whether it is the single hour shows or the 12 hour monster sets - let Crystal Clouds know!

Voted (again) Smile
80 minutes was my choice. In previous poll I voted between 1 and 2 hours, so this one seemed about right. Besides, if I like the set really much I can make full advantage of burning it to CD and listening in the car.

My answer is 2 hours ! Cool Indeed, this length allows for hammering many traxx, so the DJ can express himself fully ! bom Besides, it's easy to listen to a 2-hour Set in a row. And a 2-hour Set provides a detailed but not too long Trip N2 Trance ! Smile

Agreed Wampa. I feel that 2 hours is the perfect time. It lets DJ's take you on a bit more of a journey but easily fits into a single listening session.

Dont get me wrong, I love long sets too, but often I struggle these days to listen to them the whole way through Very Happy

Thanks for your nice feedback EVM ! Smile Regarding long sets, I also struggle Big Time to turn them to a "dealt with" status ! Laughing

10 hours + Razz

Haha, just on special occasions... Very Happy For the normal radioshows for instance it's nice to do a 1 hour set, to highlight what's new these days. When you play live for an audience on a event/party it's nice to play longer, like 2 hours (or perhaps more). That way you can really go somewhere with your set and make a great party, you don't have to rush anything cause you're short of time Smile

80 mins of length is ok when you choose uplifting trance tracks
100-120 mins of length is ok when you choose progressive+uplifting trance tracks

for my ears for sure however I might be getting old toothy9

I can understand DJ's doing 2 hours, as they say it allows for more expression, BUT for me CD length is perfect. I always listen to what I d/l, but unless there is something spectacular (?) after 80mins, I usually only d/l the 80mins. If I do find something I really like after 80 mins, I look for it on another set. Very Happy
That way I put tracks on the envelope, and I am not hunting for part 2, as I am driving....don't want to rear end someone... Laughing

I am surprised at the early support for CDs. Mainly for in car listening I suppose - but USB / iPOD stereos are pretty cheap these days.

I got a USB one and I have never looked back because it remembers where you last were and everything Very Happy

I personally have an MP3 stereo that plays Mp3s off a CD so its very nice because I can fit about 7 hours of music on one CD depending on the quality of the mix of course such as 144kpbs or 244 etc but in most cases 7 hours is good. so anything between 2-7 hours usually works for me on and Mp3 CD or if its longer I just through it on my Ipod Smile and plug it into my stereo as my stereo also supports usb Smile So any length of mix is good for me Razz bigsmurf

i still got an old stereo without any connectivity via usb or headphone port so bought myself a nice little fm transmitter that plugs into the cig lighter, now I just plug my phone in and listen to whats been put on there through an fm channel, whether its long or short mixes..This gives me the opportunity to choose a long mix on Sunday and play that all week which is just so much easier than burning to disc.

if I was to sit down and listen a full mix then i would say that between 2 and 3 hours is what I like to listen to most. An hour is great but if the mix is good then these always seem to end far to quickly, leaving me wanting more.. so for this vote i am going to go with two hours..

As mentioned in the other post about this... I love 2 hour mixes as they give me a good time to build things up, chuck in some euphoria and then bang things off for the last 30-40 mins. always finishing with something that will leave you wanting more.........

Rock on!

In addition to what I said earlier I had a small pile of very long sets (MLS - Extrema 250 - 6h, Jerom - Visions 180 XXL - 10+ hours) which were enough to block my queue for almost a week. And as I loved both of them it is not possible for me to enjoy them in full and thus I would prefer smaller portions of greatness. Too much perfection is still too much Smile

'1 Hour Pure Uplifting' sets are my choice but '2 Hours' sets are my choice overall. If they include '30 mins progressive' + '1 hour real uplifting' + '30 mins hard & hard(lifting) trance', they 're just perfect for me. Smile

although i typically prefer one- or two-hour sets, it is pretty cool to pick up a MASSIVE "XXL" set of several hours every now & then & know that you won't hear the same tune for hours on end, so, i'll continue to check'em out.

I agree with some of the points made here.

Personally when it is a strictly listening set i love it when they are cd length.
Just it saves me the time of splitting sets to put them on cd for listening.

But in the mean time, i can play mp3 also in my car, so that problem somewhat salved itself drunken

Personally i like doing the longer sets because of the building up i can do in such a timeframe. I like taking people on a journey through tempo, styles and emotions in very short terms. I really enjoyed doing 3 or 4 our live sets in the past (my first residency even was 6 hours live on friday as well as on the following saturday...)

But i also listen to the fans and their opinions, as that is what makes them fans.
So i continue to do my monthly show as a 2 hour set. Very Happy
And that works fine for me too Wink Cool Smile Very Happy
